Chamber celebrates milestone with successful Legacy Book Launch and Exemplar Award Presentation

Manila, Philippines — The Chamber of Commerce of the Philippine Islands (CCPI) held a momentous gathering on April 30, 2025, at its historic Chamber building in Intramuros, celebrating both the official unveiling of its landmark Legacy Book and the presentation of Exemplar Awards to San Miguel Corporation and its president and COO, Mr. Ramon S. Ang.
The launch was attended by dignitaries, diplomats, and business leaders, including H.E. Miguel Utray, Ambassador of Spain; Mr. Paul Taylor, Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of the United States; OIC-Office of the Executive Deputy Director Rosario V. Sapitan of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP); and Ms. Cecile Ang, representing San Miguel Corporation, a pioneering member since the Chamber’s founding.
The Legacy Book, titled “From CHAMBER HISTORY to NAVIGATING THE FUTURE: From 8 Epochs to Economic Compass Pillars 5 (ECOMP-P5),” is the Chamber’s first publication chronicling its origins in 1886 through eight key epochs of Philippine economic history. The book serves as a bridge between the past and a forward-looking vision through the ECOMP-P5 framework—a guide for national renewal and economic direction.
San Miguel Corporation, one of the Chamber’s founding members, was honored for its continued leadership and contributions to Philippine industry and nation-building. The award was received by Ms. Cecile Ang on behalf of Mr. Ang.
In his remarks, Chamber President Jose Luis U. Yulo, Jr., said, “This book is more than a history. It is a tribute to the enduring values and foresight of the pioneers who shaped Philippine commerce and a guide for future generations navigating new economic frontiers.”
This month holds deep historical significance for the Chamber, commemorating the Royal Decree issued by King Alfonso XIII through Queen Regent Maria Christina of Spain dated April 9, 1886, which formally established the institution. This enduring legacy was celebrated alongside a bold vision for the future.
The Chamber’s provenance building, inaugurated by President Manuel L. Quezon, served as a fitting venue, having been declared a national heritage site by the NHCP.

The Chamber of Commerce of the Philippine Islands is the Provenance and the Oldest business institution in the Philippines, given Historical Markers by the NHCP in three languages, in recognition of its status since its founding through a Spanish Royal Decree on 9 April 1886.

In 2024, the Chamber printed the final version of its main Advocacy ECOMP-P5: Economic Compass Pillars 5, under the theme Navigating the Future, which aligns with the Chamber’s guiding principle: History Builds the Future. A pillar is structured around a compass with a set of dynamic missions that supports the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). (For a copy of ECOMP-P5, please email: secretariat@thechamber.ph)
